Hello Customers,
The other day someone ask me where I got my inspiration for building the HBBS 410. This may be of interest to some of our customers? So let me tell at least part of the story.
I remember when I was boy and desperately wanting to tag along with Dad to go hunting. Guess I was maybe five years old first time out. Off we went and I was hooked right there. What a thrill it was.
Then of course there was Dad’s collection of Outdoor Life magazines. Believe it or not, Dad at times read Jack O’Conner’s hunting articles to me at bedtime. Then after I could read I probably read every magazine in the collection cover to cover. Guns, hunting, fishing, made no difference I read it all and hung on every word. So you see I was hooked on the outdoors way early in life.
Oh, how many of you remember the huge Herters catalogs? Wow, had everything an outdoors man could ever need or dream about. Dad and I made up lists of goods we would need for that next big hunt, wall tent, camp stove, axes, sleeping bags, cook stove, guns, ammo etc. etc. We were not really going on a big hunt, but it was a nice dream for a young boy and dear old Dad played right along, right down to the final tally. We even planned where to go and what we would hunt, normally big game. Out west was the destination since we had small game here in Ohio and anything as big as deer was unheard of here at home.
So, growing up you can see where my inspiration came from, which actually became a bit of a problem; you could not keep me out of the woods, or from the creek fishing, and by age nine the fur trapper and coon hunting faze started. After I got my first hound I was totally out of control, my mother nearly pulled her hair out. This was all I wanted to do and the condition lasted over 20 years before it ever let up! It took a marriage and children to even slightly get me to let up. Skipping ahead I was a brick layer for years, gun trader and gun collector, ran a small gun shop, and at one point went to 40-50 gun shows a year and became a shade tree gunsmith. That evolved into the quest for a better slug gun which evolved into the Hoening Bore Bore 410.
Recent inspiration comes from our customers. I could name a few who really stand out but it might be a bit unfair to pick a few favorites. I’m very pleased how everyone has gotten along with the HBBS 410. You would not believe how creative and skilled some of these folks are at reloading the HBBS 410. A couple of these guys have shown me a thing or two and I’m most happy to report loads have been developed by customers that flat out put 12 ga. sabots to shame!!! This is something I personally thought would not be possible using a plastic hull if you asked me about it five years ago!! Re-loaders have taken the HBBS 410 to a whole new level of performance. Just maybe we can get these guys to share their experiences with the HBBS 410 with the shotgun slug shooting world?? I hope they do, they deserve all the credit. HBBS LLC just supplied the gun and loading technique that made the impossible possible!!
Hope you all enjoyed the story on where my inspiration came from. Basically blame it on dear old Dad. Sad to say Dad passed away earlier this year. He was the true inspiration behind the HBBS 410. Best Regards, Ed Hoening
